One test decides whether refacing is even an option
Refacing keeps your existing cabinet boxes and changes everything you see — doors, drawer fronts, hardware, and a veneer or laminate skin over the visible frame. That is the entire proposition, and it only works if the boxes underneath are sound.
Before pricing anything, open a door and check:
- Does the box rack? Push a corner gently. Movement means the joinery has given up, and a new door on a loose box is money wasted.
- Is the base under the sink sound? This is where failure concentrates. Soft, swollen or delaminated material here is common and usually decisive.

The saving comes from what you do not touch
